1966 A Boutique is born

In the autumn of 1966, the County Boutique was founded by  Merty (nee Phelan) and her husband Frank Culligan. Merty’s passion was for beautiful fabrics, expert finishes and exquisite design. She made most of her children’s clothes and was known for how immaculately they and she would always be turned out, even if it was just for an afternoon stroll. The store was the beginning of what would become a destination for those seeking something beautiful, different and unique to wear.  The boutique concept was only beginning in Ireland, where department stores were the norm. Merty was one of the early band of buyers to travel abroad to bring new and exciting fashion to Co. Clare. The store was also renowned for celebrating Irish Designers as they became some of the most sought out and respected designers in the business and today the boutique still showcases the best of Irish, including Aideen Bodkin, Niamh O’Neill, Caroline Kilkenny, Susannagh Grogan and Suzie Mahony Millinery.

1980 Eighties Glamour

The store’s reputation grew, becoming one of the best boutiques in Ennis, Co. Clare and in the mid-west. By the 1980’s it was visited by customers from all over Ireland and was also popular with visitors from the UK and the US.

Second Generation

As they say, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, so it was not a surprise when sisters Gwen and Maeve joined the family business in 1990 and 2002 respectively. With both having the same  passion for beautiful things, the family heritage is to continue to provide the finest quality fashion at a reasonable price for the store’s customers.   ’95 was the year of the Banner roar and not only were Clare crowned All-Ireland Hurling Champions, the County Boutique also trebled in size to over 1,500 sq.ft., trading over 2 floors in a modern, sleek environment.

2014 Nenagh Store is born

In July 2014, the time felt right to expand and the doors opened to a second store, in Nenagh.
